What is Credit History?
Your credit history contains in-depth information on financial transactions related to your borrowing of money or application for credit. It starts right when you first borrow money or apply for credit. Information including, but not limited to, borrowing and repaying of money, late payments (normally when 30+ days overdue) and even past bankruptcies are recorded into your credit history. To make the decision on whether or not you get credit and at what interest rate, major lenders including credit card companies, banks, auto loan companies, and mortgage companies will be looking at your credit history.
Stay Informed of Your Credit Report
Your credit history can be quite in-depth, but a credit report will summarize the information. A credit score or rating is typically reported with your credit report, which again indicates your credit worthiness thus enabling lenders to determine how much to lend you and at what interest rate. Credit reports are generated by three major credit bureaus – TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. FICO scores between 300-900 are generated using the FICO model.
